Hypnotherapy uses deep relaxation techniques to get around the conscious mind’s beliefs and barriers that prevent one from changing.
All of us have experiences every day where we enter a self-induced trance state. This is a part of the natural activity-relaxation rhythm of the body known as the ultradian (or daily cycle) rhythm. This usually described as "spacing out" and is very similar to the state that many clients experience during clinical hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is the focused use of the trance state, where the therapist by-passes the conscious mind and works with the subconscious and super conscious, in order to reprogram self-limiting, or negative unconscious patterns. A hypnotized state is also the state in which openness to learning is most likely to occur.
One way of looking at the relationship between the conscious self and the potential self is that each individual has all the resources necessary for change already residing within.
In order to do this, there are a variety of techniques. The therapist may talk to the unconscious mind, tell anecdotes and metaphors, stimulate memory recall, use age regression, help the client recall, reinterpret, or re-parent the original childhood trauma, or even assist in altering the original birth experience. Sometimes hypnosis seeks to connect the client with past-life events. Good hypnotherapists do not limit themselves to utilizing only hypnosis in treatment. In most cases, Sandra uses other therapies where appropriate in conjunction with hypnotherapy, to achieve the best possible outcome for each client.
Unlike many party demonstrations where hypnotized people do stupid things when asked to, in clinical hypnotherapy, the client is never put under the "control" of the hypnotist. You have complete control. You will experience hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state that allows you access to levels that are normally hidden from your conscious mind. Through hypnosis, the therapist has direct access to your subconscious, to help correct the source of an existing symptom or problem. The client is always free to alter the hypnotic experience or awaken at will. It's not magic; all clients must work cooperatively with their therapists to achieve results. Results can be dramatic, and life changing, and are dependent on the aims of the client.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
- Change emotions
- Change behaviours
- Make better choices in life
- Modelling positive states
- Improve communication
- Improve relationships
Richard Bandler and John Grinder developed a model of language patterns in 1974. This model revealed the relationship between how we think (neuro) and how we communicate both verbally and non-verbally (linguistic) and patterns of emotions and behaviours (programmes).
NLP is a process which creates change and transformation. One of the techniques is modelling positive states of being using words which induce change, often using examples of successful people or situations which can be tapped into. NLP therapy can provide you with the technology to make positive choices which then enhance behaviour and emotions. This results in life changes in communication and relationships. Combining it with hypnotherapy techniques, it becomes a powerful experience of change at a core level.
